Supported Formats and Quality
Shorts are short and lightweight, so YouTube usually keeps a single combined file for them. That means most Shorts download directly from YouTube's servers to your browser with nothing to merge — typically a 1080x1920 MP4 a few megabytes in size.

How It Works
When you paste a link, we ask the source platform which versions of that video exist and show you the list. Nothing is downloaded until you choose one.
Most formats are already a single complete file on the platform's own servers, so your browser fetches them directly — nothing is copied onto ours. The exceptions are videos stored as separate picture and sound tracks: those are combined into one MP4 in temporary storage, handed to you, and deleted immediately afterwards.

In the YouTube app, tap the Share arrow beside the Short, then Copy link. Paste it here and download — Chrome puts the clip in your Downloads folder.
On iPhone and iPad
Tap Share → Copy Link on the Short, paste it above, and confirm the Safari download prompt. The MP4 appears under Downloads in the Files app.

Why is my Shorts link not recognised?
Make sure you copied the link to the Short itself and not to the creator's channel. A valid link contains /shorts/ followed by the video ID.
Will the Short download with music?
Yes, when the audio is part of the uploaded video. Shorts built on a licensed audio track that YouTube attaches separately may occasionally come through without it.
Can I download Shorts in 1080p?
Most Shorts are uploaded at 1080x1920 and download at that size. Some older or re-uploaded Shorts exist only at lower resolutions.
Is there a length limit?
Shorts max out at three minutes by YouTube's own rules, so length is never the constraint here.
